Eloira is a small, soft, flexible plastic system that is placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy.
It can be used for up to five years.
Eloira releases a small amount of levonorgestrel directly into the uterus. The amount of hormone present in the blood is much lower than that following the ingestion of oral contraceptive pills.

Occasionally, the release of eggs may be inhibited during the early stages of use of Eloira. Because of the thinner lining of the uterus, there is less monthly bleeding. Eloira prevents fertilization (the fusion of sperm with an egg). It does not cause abortion.
